The Cat and the Mouse Become Friends

The Cat and the Mouse Become Friends

Story Summary

The cat and the mouse try to be friends but fail because of their nature. This story tells the truth that it is hard to change one's nature.

In a small town in Germany, there was a cat and a mouse. The cat was named Tom and the mouse was named Jerry. One day, Jerry was tired of the daily chasing with Tom. He thought that perhaps they could become friends. So, Jerry walked towards Tom cautiously. When Tom saw Jerry coming, instead of pouncing on him as usual, he looked at Jerry curiously. Jerry said to Tom, "Tom, it's so boring that we chase each other every day. Let's be friends." Tom thought about it and thought that what Jerry said made sense, so he nodded.

Cat and mouse sharing food

Since then, they began to try to get along like friends. Jerry took out a piece of cheese from his small warehouse and shared it with Tom. Tom had never tasted such delicious cheese before and he meowed happily. They sunbathed in the garden together. Jerry rolled on Tom's soft fur as if it were soft grass. Tom would also gently scratch Jerry with his paws. At this time, they thought that being friends was a wonderful thing.

The cat shows its true nature when seeing the bird

But one day, a little bird flew in front of them. When Tom saw the bird, his eyes lit up immediately and his true nature took over. Tom forgot that he and Jerry were friends. His paws involuntarily reached out to the bird. Jerry was startled when he saw Tom's appearance. He quickly pulled Tom and said, "Tom, what are you doing? We are friends. You can't hurt the bird." But Tom couldn't listen at all. He was only focused on catching the bird.

The disappointed mouse leaves

Seeing Tom like this, Jerry was very disappointed. He knew that it was the nature of cats to chase small animals and it was very difficult to change. Finally, Jerry shook his head helplessly and turned away from Tom. After Tom caught the bird, he suddenly remembered Jerry. He looked at Jerry's departing figure and suddenly realized that he had lost a friend. However, because it was difficult to change his nature, he could only watch Jerry walk farther and farther away. This story tells us that some natures are very difficult to change, even if one wants to change them.
