Story Summary

An interesting story about a little bear that doesn't want to hibernate and spends the winter with its friends.

In the big forest of Norway, there lives a little bear named Bobby. Winter is approaching, and all the bears are starting to prepare for hibernation, but Bobby doesn't want to hibernate at all. He thinks hibernation is too boring. Sleeping through the whole winter means missing out on all the fun things.

Bobby's good friend, a little squirrel named Jumpy, saw that Bobby wasn't looking for a place to hibernate like the other bears, so he came over and asked, "Bobby, why don't you hibernate?" Bobby said, "Jumpy, I don't want to sleep through the whole winter. I want to play with everyone." Jumpy thought for a while and said, "Then you can come and play at my place. I've stored a lot of nuts."

So, Bobby followed Jumpy to his tree hole. It was warm and cozy inside the tree hole, and there were nuts stored everywhere by Jumpy. Bobby and Jumpy ate nuts together while listening to Jumpy tell interesting stories about collecting nuts in the forest. Bobby was very happy. He had never known that there were so many fun stories about collecting nuts.

However, after a few days, the weather got even colder. Bobby missed his warm bear cave a little. Just then, another friend of his, a little rabbit named Whitey, came to find him. Whitey saw Bobby in the little squirrel's tree hole and said, "Bobby, my carrot hole is very warm. Do you want to come to my place?" Bobby thought for a while and then followed Whitey to his carrot hole.

In Whitey's carrot hole, there were a great many carrots. Whitey told Bobby that he had planted these carrots in autumn and then painstakingly collected them. Bobby and Whitey ate carrots together. Bobby thought the carrots were very sweet and delicious. At night, Whitey also lit a small lamp made of carrots, and the hole became bright and very cozy.

But as winter went on, the snow outside was falling more and more heavily. One day, a strong wind blew by and almost blew Whitey's carrot hole apart. Bobby and Whitey worked hard to repair the entrance of the hole, but Bobby knew that it might not be as safe as his own bear cave.

At this time, Bobby's old neighbor, Grandpa Brown Bear, came over. Grandpa Brown Bear saw that Bobby hadn't hibernated and was still looking for places to stay everywhere, so he said to Bobby, "My child, hibernation is the nature of our bears. Although it's interesting that you want to spend the winter with your friends, our bodies need hibernation to rest."

After hearing Grandpa Brown Bear's words, Bobby thought about it. Although he had been very happy during this time, he was indeed a little tired. So, he bid farewell to his friends and returned to his own bear cave. He made his bear cave nice and comfortable and then began to hibernate.

During hibernation, Bobby had a wonderful dream. He dreamed that he was playing with his friends in the forest in spring. The sunlight shone on them, and there were flowers and green grass everywhere in the forest. Bobby knew that when he woke up from hibernation, he could really play happily with his friends in the forest.
