A Long Time Ago in Greece, there was a very clever craftsman named Daedalus. He was locked in a high tower because he had angered King Minos. This high tower was on the island of Crete, surrounded by the sea, and it was extremely difficult to escape.
Daedalus had a son named Icarus. Looking at his son, he didn't want him to be trapped in this place for a lifetime. So, Daedalus began to think about how to escape. With his wisdom, he collected a great many feathers and glued them together with wax, carefully making two pairs of wings.
Daedalus tied the wings to Icarus's arms, just like dressing Icarus in a special garment. As he tied, he said to his son, "Son, these wings can take us out of this place, but you must remember not to fly too high. If you get close to the sun, the high temperature of the sun will melt the wax and the wings will break; also, don't fly too low. If you get close to the sea, the seawater will wet the feathers and make the wings heavy." Icarus looked at his father, his eyes full of excitement and anticipation. He nodded obediently and said, "Father, I've remembered."
After everything was ready, the father - son pair stood on the edge of the high tower. Daedalus jumped out of the tower first, flapped his wings, and flew up slowly. Icarus also jumped out. He felt like a free little bird, soaring in the air. At the beginning, Icarus was able to fly at a proper height as his father had told him.
However, Icarus flew higher and higher. He was carried away by the joy of flying and attracted by the vastness of the sky and the radiance of the sun. He forgot his father's warning and kept flying towards the sun. As he got closer and closer to the sun, the high temperature of the sun began to take effect, and the wax that glued the feathers melted little by little.
Icarus felt his wings starting to loosen and the feathers falling off one after another. He became frightened and flapped the remaining feathers desperately, trying to keep flying. But it was all in vain. His wings were completely broken, and he fell straight down from the air.
When Daedalus looked back, he only saw Icarus falling towards the sea like a meteor. He was extremely grief - stricken and wanted to save his son, but it was too late. Icarus just fell into the sea and disappeared forever. And Daedalus could only fly into the distance alone with great sorrow. This story tells us that we should listen to the teachings of our elders and not be too headstrong, otherwise it may bring great danger.
