Story Summary

A talking kettle teaches people to save water.

In a small town in Russia, there lived a little boy named Ivan. Ivan was a lively and active child, but he had a bad habit - he was always very wasteful when using water. His family had a very old kettle, which had been on their stove for many, many years.

One day, as usual, Ivan turned on the faucet and let the water flow freely. He played with the water while laughing, completely ignoring that the water was flowing away in vain. Suddenly, he heard a strange voice: "Little Ivan, it's not good for you to waste water like this." Ivan was startled and looked around. To his surprise, he found that the voice came from that old kettle.

The little boy looks at the kettle in surprise

Ivan's eyes widened. He couldn't believe that the kettle could talk. He stammered, "You... who are you? How can you talk?" The kettle replied slowly, "I am the guardian of this family. I have been here for a very long time, watching generations of people grow up. Water is a very precious thing. If you waste it like this, there will be no water to use in the future." Ivan scratched his head and said incomprehensively, "But there is so much water. How could it run out?" The kettle sighed and said, "Do you know? Water is not inexhaustible. In far - away places, there are many areas lacking water. People there have to walk a long, long way just to get a little water."

After hearing what the kettle said, Ivan felt a little guilty and lowered his head. The kettle continued, "Little Ivan, when you wash your hands, if you don't need so much water, don't turn on the faucet so wide; when you take a bath, don't let the water keep running either. Every drop of water is very important." Ivan nodded and said, "I see, Mr. Kettle. I will save water in the future."

Ivan happily turns off the faucet

Since then, Ivan seemed like a different person. Every time he used water, he would remember what the kettle had said. When he washed his hands, he only turned on a little water and turned off the faucet immediately after washing. When he took a bath, he would also use a basin to catch the water and use it to flush the toilet. He also told his friends around him to save water because water is a very precious resource. At first, his friends didn't believe him very much. So Ivan told them about the talking kettle. After hearing this, his friends all thought it was amazing and began to save water with Ivan.

As days passed by, the kettle in Ivan's family no longer made blaming voices because of Ivan's waste of water. And under the teaching of the kettle, Ivan understood the importance of cherishing water resources. He hoped that he could tell more people this truth so that everyone could protect the earth's water resources.
