In a small village in India, there lived a little girl named Kali. Kali's family was not wealthy. Every winter, the cold north wind blew across her thin body like sharp knives. Her only source of warmth was a scarf knitted by her mother herself. This scarf, though not in gorgeous colors and simply knitted with wool, was full of her mother's love.
One day, Kali went to the market to help her mother sell some vegetables grown at home. The market was very lively, but the cold still pervaded everything. Suddenly, a strong wind blew, and the vegetable basket in Kali's hand was almost blown away. She quickly grabbed it with both hands, but as a result, the scarf was blown to the ground. A little boy passing by accidentally stepped on the scarf, and the scarf became dirty. Kali felt extremely distressed. She picked up the scarf carefully, with tears in her eyes. Seeing Kali's appearance, the little boy felt very guilty. He took out a clean handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to Kali to wipe her tears.
Kali didn't accept the little boy's handkerchief. She smiled and told the little boy it was okay. Seeing that Kali was so kind, the little boy told Kali that his grandmother was very good at cleaning things and would surely be able to clean the scarf. So, Kali followed the little boy to his home. When the little boy's grandmother saw Kali and the scarf, she took the scarf very enthusiastically to clean it. When the scarf returned to Kali's hands again, it became clean and soft, as if it also carried the warmth of the grandmother.
Kali happily returned home. She told her mother and father what had happened at the market. That night, when the family sat around having dinner, Kali took out the scarf and gently wrapped it around the necks of her father, mother, and younger brother, so that they could also feel the warmth brought by the scarf. Although the scarf became a little tight when wrapped around so many people, everyone laughed happily. This scarf seemed no longer just an ordinary scarf. It became a bond for transmitting love and warmth. Whether it was Kali's family, or the little boy and his grandmother, they all felt the love between people because of this scarf. Since then, this scarf seemed to have magic. Whenever someone wrapped it around, their hearts were filled with love and warmth.
