Story Summary

An old woman found a big peach while washing clothes by the river. There was a boy inside. When the boy grew up, he, together with a dog, a monkey and a pheasant, subdued the ghosts and protected the village.

Once upon a time, in a small village in Japan, there lived a kind - hearted old woman. One day, the old woman came to the riverside to wash clothes as usual. While she was scrubbing the clothes by the river, suddenly she saw an extremely huge peach floating on the river. This peach was big and red, looking very tempting. The old woman was very surprised. She had lived in the village for so many years and had never seen such a large peach. So, she carefully fished the peach out and took it home.

A boy appears from the peach

After the old woman brought the peach home, she put it on the table. Suddenly, the peach slowly split open by itself, and there was a lovely little boy inside. The old woman was both surprised and happy. She thought this little boy was a gift from heaven, so she adopted him and named him Momotaro. Momotaro grew up very healthy, strong, and very clever. He lived happily with the old woman. As Momotaro grew up gradually, he became more and more brave and had a kind heart. He always wanted to protect the people in the village.

Momotaro and his companions set off

One day, a terrible news came to the village. It turned out that there was a group of monsters on the mountain outside the village. After Momotaro knew about it, he decided to subdue these monsters and protect the village. He began to gather his companions. Arrive at the monsters' dwelling
