In a beautiful forest in ancient Greece, there lived a handsome young man named Narkissos. He was of peerless beauty. His face was like the most exquisite sculpture, his eyes sparkled like stars, and his figure was tall and elegant. In the forest, there was a nymph named Echo, who was also attracted by Narkissos' beauty.
Echo summoned up her courage and confessed her love to Narkissos. Standing in front of Narkissos, her eyes full of expectation, she softly told him of her admiration. However, Narkissos was a proud young man. He only loved his own beauty in his heart. He coldly rejected the nymph Echo. There was not a trace of love in his eyes, only disdain for Echo.
Echo was extremely sad. Her love was ruthlessly rejected, and her heart was full of pain. And her pain was heard by the goddess of vengeance, Nemesis.
The goddess of vengeance decided to punish Narkissos for his cold - heartedness. She cast a curse on Narkissos, which would make him fall in love with his own reflection. Since then, whenever Narkissos saw his reflection in the calm water, he would be deeply attracted and unable to extricate himself.
He sat by the water all day long, gazing at his own image in the water. He thought he was the most beautiful being in the world. He poured out his love to his reflection. There was only the self in the water in his eyes, completely forgetting everything around him.
Gradually, because Narkissos was too obsessed with his own reflection, his body became weaker and weaker. Finally, his body turned into a narcissus flower, staying by the water forever. The narcissus flower had beautiful white petals, swaying gently in the wind, as if still telling the story of Narkissos. Since then, the narcissus has become a symbol of narcissism, and this story has been passed down from generation to generation on the land of Greece.
