Story Summary

A story about neighbors helping each other.

In a peaceful small village, there were many families. There was a child named Xiaoming, and he and his family lived in a small house on the east side of the village. Xiaoming's neighbor was Grandma Li. Grandma Li's children all worked in big cities, and usually she was alone at home.

Xiaoming helps Grandma Li carry vegetables

One day, Xiaoming was on his way home from school. He saw Grandma Li coming back from the market, with a full basket of vegetables in her hand, walking with great difficulty. Xiaoming quickly ran over and said, "Grandma Li, let me carry it for you." Grandma Li said with a smile, "Xiaoming, you are such a sensible and good child." Xiaoming then carried the vegetable basket and walked slowly home with Grandma Li.

Grandma Li brings snacks to Xiaoming

A few days later, Grandma Li made her best - known snacks. Thinking that Xiaoming, such a good child, had helped her, she put the snacks on a plate and walked unsteadily to Xiaoming's home. "Xiaoming, grandma made some snacks. Have a taste." Xiaoming happily took the snacks and said, "Thank you, Grandma Li."

Everyone repairs the roof together

Another time, there was a hole in the roof of Xiaoming's house. This worried Xiaoming's parents a great deal. Just when they were worried, the neighbors came to help one after another. Some carried ladders, some took tools, and some passed tiles. Everyone worked together and quickly repaired the roof. Xiaoming's father said gratefully, "Thanks to all of you. Otherwise, we really wouldn't know what to do." The neighbors all said, "We are all neighbors. Helping each other is what we should do."

The neighbors sit around and have dinner

To thank the neighbors for their help, Xiaoming's family prepared a sumptuous dinner. Everyone sat around the table, eating and chatting happily. The laughter and chatter echoed throughout the yard. This feeling of neighbors helping each other was deeply engraved in Xiaoming's heart. He knew that in this village, everyone was like a family, caring for and helping each other.
