Paper Boats and Kites

Paper Boats and Kites

Story Summary

A story about friendship and dreams.

In a beautiful small mountain village, there lived two neighbors, a little bear and a squirrel. The little bear lived at the foot of the mountain, while the squirrel lived on the top of the mountain. Although they lived close to each other, they had never talked to each other.

The little bear was a very simple and honest fellow. His favorite thing to do every day was to fold paper boats. The paper boats he folded were so beautiful that each one was like a carefully crafted small work of art. The squirrel, on the other hand, was a clever little thing. What she was best at was making kites. She made all kinds of kites, and when they were flying in the air, they looked like colorful little birds.

The little bear is setting off a paper boat by the stream

One day, the little bear put the folded paper boat into the stream at the foot of the mountain. The small boat drifted away wobbly along the stream. The little bear silently made a wish in his heart, hoping that the paper boat could bring him a friend. The paper boat drifted and drifted, and finally drifted to the small lake on the top of the mountain. It was seen by the squirrel who was flying a kite. The squirrel picked up the paper boat and was very pleasantly surprised. She thought it was a very special gift.

The squirrel really wanted to thank the person who sent the paper boat. So she wrote some words of gratitude on the kite and also drew the appearance of the kite she made. Then she flew the kite. The kite flew high in the air, flying farther and farther, and finally landed in the little bear's yard. The little bear was also very happy to see the kite, and he also understood that there was a little friend on the top of the mountain who wanted to be friends with him.

The squirrel is flying a kite on the top of the mountain

Since then, the little bear and the squirrel have become good friends. The little bear often folded paper boats, wrote his thoughts and blessings on them, and then put them into the stream. The squirrel always flew kites, wrote her happiness and greetings on the kites, and let the kites fly to the little bear. Their friendship was like paper boats and kites, passing warmth between the mountains and rivers.

But one day, they quarreled over a trifle. The little bear was very angry. He hung the kite that the squirrel gave him on a high branch and didn't look at it anymore. The squirrel was also very sad. She put the little bear's paper boat under the stone by the lake and didn't touch it anymore.

The paper boats and kites are put away

As the days passed by, the little bear and the squirrel both felt very lonely. The little bear missed the time when he shared happiness with the squirrel, and the squirrel also missed the simple and honest smile of the little bear. They both realized that compared with that trifle, their friendship was more precious.

Finally, the little bear took the kite down from the branch and flew it again. The squirrel also took the paper boat out from under the stone and put it into the stream. The paper boats and kites began to convey their friendship between the mountains and waters again. Their friendship was deeper than before because they knew that friendship needs to be cherished, and the ideal friendship is to be with each other forever.
