Once upon a time, there was a little red hen. She lived on a farm in the United States. The little red hen was an extremely hard - working hen. She was always bustling about and never idle from morning till night.
One day, the little red hen found some wheat seeds. She thought, "If I plant these seeds, I can harvest a great deal of wheat and then make delicious bread." So she began to ask other animals for help.
First, she found the piglet and said to it, "Piglet, piglet, I've found some wheat seeds. Can you plant wheat with me?" The piglet snorted and said lazily, "I don't want to do such tiring work. I still want to sleep." The little red hen was a bit disappointed, but she didn't give up.
Then, she went to look for the kitten.
The little red hen said to the kitten, "Kitten, kitten, I have wheat seeds. Let's plant wheat together so that we can have bread to eat." The kitten licked its paws and replied, "Planting wheat is so boring. I still have to catch mice." The little red hen sighed and continued to look for other animals.
After that, she came to the dog's kennel.
The little red hen said to the puppy, "Puppy, puppy, can you plant wheat with me?" The puppy wagged its tail and said, "I'm not going. I'm going to play with my bone." The little red hen was a little sad, but she still decided to plant the wheat by herself.
So, the little red hen tilled the land, sowed the seeds, watered, and fertilized all by herself. Day by day passed, and finally the wheat grew out. After some more time, the wheat was ripe.
The little red hen happily harvested the wheat, ground it into flour, and then began to make bread. The aroma of the bread filled the whole farm.
At this time, the piglet, the kitten, and the puppy all smelled the aroma of the bread and they all ran over.
The piglet said, "Little red hen, your bread smells so delicious. Can you give us some?" The kitten also said, "Yes, we also want to eat." The puppy barked beside them, showing agreement.
The little red hen looked at them and said, "When I asked you to plant wheat with me before, none of you were willing. Now I have painstakingly grown the wheat and made the bread by myself, but you want to reap without sowing. This won't do." After saying that, the little red hen took the bread and enjoyed it by herself.
The piglet, the kitten, and the puppy were all very regretful. They realized that their laziness was wrong and that they should be as hard - working as the little red hen.
