Under the beautiful fields in Japan, there lives a hard - working and kind - hearted little mole. The little mole is very good at digging. It dug out one room after another underground with its little claws, creating a warm and comfortable underground home. Its underground home has a soft bed, which is carefully made of hay and leaves; there are also bright "chandeliers", actually the glowing stones found by the little mole and cleverly placed on the earthen wall above its head.
One day, when the little mole went out to look for food, it found a stray kitten in a corner. The kitten was wet all over and shivering in the cold wind, looking very pitiful. Filled with sympathy, the little mole, without hesitation, took the kitten back to its underground home. The little mole let the kitten lie on the warm bed and brought it fresh milk and delicious food. The kitten looked at the little mole gratefully and purred softly.
As time passed, more and more stray animals were taken in by the little mole's underground home, such as little rabbits, little hedgehogs, etc. Every day, everyone would sit around and have dinner together. The table was full of fresh vegetables, fruits found in the fields and nuts carefully stored by the little mole. While eating delicious food, they shared their own stories, and the whole underground city was filled with laughter.
In a large room in the underground city, the little mole also specially built an entertainment room for the small animals. There are small slides and small swings made of wood by the little mole, and small balls woven of hay. The small animals play here to their hearts' content. The little rabbit slides down the slide merrily, the little hedgehog swings happily on the swing, and the kitten chases the small ball. The whole underground city is full of vitality.
One day was the little mole's birthday. The small animals had quietly prepared a surprise for it long ago. They made a beautiful birthday cake together, decorated with flowers and wild fruits. When the little mole walked into the room, the small animals sang the birthday song together. The little mole was so moved that its eyes were full of tears. It blew out the candles and shared the birthday cake with everyone. This warm underground home was full of deep love.
At night, the little mole took the small animals to a special room. There was a small hole in the ceiling of this room, through which the stars in the sky could be seen. The small animals lay quietly on the ground, looking at the twinkling stars, and the little mole told them legends about the stars. In this underground home, every night was so quiet and beautiful.
