Story Summary

The fairy tale of a proud butterfly looking for a mate.

In a beautiful garden in Denmark, there lived a very proud butterfly. This butterfly had multicolored wings, and the patterns on its wings were like carefully painted works of art. It flitted about among the flower bushes all day long, believing itself to be the most beautiful creature in the world. Therefore, it was extremely picky when it came to finding a mate.

The butterfly rejects the little bee

One day, a hard - working little bee flew over and said to the butterfly, "Beautiful butterfly, would you like to be my friend and become my mate? I will gather the sweetest nectar for you every day." The butterfly looked at the little bee and said disdainfully, "You're busy all day long and your whole body is black. How could I be with you? I want to find a mate as beautiful as I am." The little bee had no choice but to fly away sadly.

The butterfly mocks the caterpillar

A few days later, a caterpillar was slowly wriggling on a leaf. When the butterfly saw the caterpillar, it burst out laughing, "You ugly and fat thing, and so slow. I don't want to have anything to do with you. The mate I'm looking for is as elegant, beautiful and fast - flying as I am." The caterpillar felt wronged but said nothing and just continued nibbling on the leaf silently.

The butterfly dislikes the little beetle

Another time, a little beetle appeared in front of the butterfly. The little beetle said to the butterfly, "Hello, butterfly. Look, I also have a hard and beautiful shell. Can we be mates?" The butterfly flew around the little beetle once and then said with disgust, "Although your shell is a bit special, you still don't have such beautiful wings as mine, and you walk so slowly. I won't be with you." The little beetle had to leave disappointed.

The butterfly flies alone

As time passed, summer was almost over. The butterfly still hadn't found its ideal mate. It found that all the little friends around it had their own mates or friends, while it was always alone. It began to realize that because of its pride, it had missed many friends who could have been good mates.

The butterfly apologizes to the little bee

Finally, the butterfly decided to let go of its pride. It flew to the beehive of the little bee and sincerely said to the little bee, "Little bee, I'm sorry. I was too proud before and shouldn't have treated you like that. Will you forgive me and be my friend?" Seeing the butterfly so sincere, the little bee smiled and said, "Of course." Since then, the butterfly has become less proud and has become good friends with the little bee. Although they are not mates, it is no longer alone.
