In ancient England, there was a little boy named Tom. Tom was a kind but somewhat timid child, and he was always hesitant when making decisions. One day, while playing in the forest, he found a very special hat. This hat looked ordinary, just like the ones often worn by the elderly. But when Tom picked it up and put it on his head, strange things happened.
"Hello, Tom." A gentle voice rang in his mind. Tom was startled and looked around, but found no one around. "Who is speaking?" He asked tremblingly. "It's me, the hat on your head." The voice replied. Tom was amazed and touched the hat on his head. He could hardly believe his ears. The hat could actually talk.
"Can you give me some advice?" Tom asked the hat curiously. "Sure," the hat replied. "I'm a very wise hat." Since then, Tom would consult the hat whenever he encountered anything. Once, Tom was bullied by a bigger boy at school and he didn't know what to do. He ran home, hid in his room, and told the hat about his grievance. "You should stand up bravely and tell the teacher or his parents," said the hat. "If you keep shrinking back, he will keep bullying you." Tom took the hat's advice and summoned up his courage to report this matter to the teacher. That bigger boy was criticized and never dared to bully Tom again.
As time passed, Tom became more and more dependent on this hat. But one day, the hat suddenly became taciturn. Tom was very worried. He didn't know what was wrong with the hat. He tried to talk to the hat, but the hat only responded occasionally, not as energetic as before. Tom decided to take the hat to find the answer. He walked along the forest path until he came to a mysterious tree hole.
Tom walked carefully into the tree hole. It was pitch - dark inside. Suddenly, a flash of light passed by, and Tom saw a little elf. The little elf looked at the hat on Tom's head and said with a smile, "The magic of this hat is limited. It has given you a lot of advice, and now it needs to rest." Tom was a little disappointed when he heard this, but he also understood that he couldn't rely on the hat all the time. "Will it talk again?" Tom asked. The little elf said, "If one day you truly learn to make decisions on your own and become full of wisdom, it may wake up again."
After that, although Tom missed the talking hat very much, he began to study hard, learn to think independently and make decisions by himself. He became braver and smarter, and that hat, quietly placed on his bedside, became his most precious memory.
