The Elderbush Mother

The Elderbush Mother

Story Summary

The adventure of a sick little boy and the elder tree spirit.

Once upon a time, in a small town in Denmark, there was a little boy who fell ill. His little face was burning red with fever, and his body was very weak. He could only lie in bed all day long. The little boy's parents were extremely worried about him and had tried all kinds of methods but still couldn't make him get better.

One day, the little boy drifted off into a drowsy sleep. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself in a wonderful place. There was a huge elder tree here, covered with white little flowers, giving off a faint delicate fragrance. The little boy walked towards the tree curiously. All of a sudden, a beautiful fairy emerged from the tree. This fairy seemed to be made up of the branches, leaves and flowers of the elder tree. She had a gentle smile and glittering eyes.

The fairy said to the little boy, "Don't be afraid, child. I am Elder Mother. I can sense your pain. Let me help you." Hearing her words, the little boy felt a warm feeling in his heart, and his original fear disappeared. Elder Mother gently took the little boy's hand and led him to stroll in the garden under the elder tree. There were all kinds of wonderful flowers and plants in the garden, and many lovely little animals were playing there.

Elder Mother led the little boy to a small pond. The water in the pond was crystal clear, and there were colorful fish swimming around in it. She picked a leaf of the elder tree and gently put it into the pond. The leaf made ripples on the water surface. Suddenly, a soft ray of light rose from the ripples and enveloped the little boy. The little boy felt a cool force pouring into his body, and his illness seemed to ease a little.

Elder Mother then led the little boy to a patch of soft grass, which was dotted with little flowers. She let the little boy lie on the grass and then began to sing a melodious song gently. The song was like the spring breeze, gently caressing the little boy's heart. With the song, the surrounding flowers bloomed more brilliantly, and their petals flew up one after another, spinning around the little boy. Unconsciously, the little boy fell asleep in this beautiful scene.

When the little boy woke up again, he found himself back in his own room. But to his surprise, his body had fully recovered. He knew that it was all the magic power of Elder Mother. Since then, the little boy often thought of Elder Mother and that wonderful place. Whenever he felt unhappy or unwell, he would close his eyes and imagine that he was back in the garden under the elder tree, with Elder Mother.
