At the bottom of a deep well, there lived a little frog. Since its birth, this frog had been staying in this narrow well bottom all the time. It thought that its world was just the patch of sky as big as the well opening. Every day, it looked at the small patch of sky above the well opening and thought that the sky was only as big as the well opening.
One day, a little bird flew to the edge of the well. When the bird saw the frog at the bottom of the well, it started to chat with the frog. The bird said, "Frog friend, why have you been staying in this well bottom all this time? The outside world is so vast." Hearing this, the frog said very disdainfully, "What are you talking about? Here is my whole world, and the sky is only as big as the well opening." Hearing this, the bird thought it was very funny.
The bird said to the frog, "Frog, you are really short - sighted. Every day I fly in the sky, and the sky I see is boundless and very large." However, the frog didn't take it seriously. It firmly believed that what it saw was the entire sky. The bird shook its head helplessly and said to the frog, "If you don't believe it, just jump out of the well and have a look." But the frog just didn't believe the bird's words at all. It thought that its small world was already enough.
Finally, the bird flew away, and the frog still continued to stay in its small well - bottom world. It still thought that the sky was only as big as the well opening, and it could never imagine what the vast outside world was like. This story tells us that we shouldn't be like the frog at the bottom of the well, only seeing the small world around us, but should broaden our horizons and explore the wider world.
