The Fool's Thousand Thoughts

The Fool's Thousand Thoughts

Story Summary

A wisdom story about the benefit of collective wisdom.

Once upon a time, there was a small village where a wise man and a fool lived. The wise man was very good at listening to everyone's opinions. Before doing anything, he would always consult with the villagers. However, the fool always thought that his own ideas were right and was not very willing to listen to others.

One day, the village decided to build a new well. The wise man gathered all the villagers together, and they discussed animatedly. Some villagers said that the well should be built in the middle of the village so that it would be convenient for everyone to fetch water; others said it should be close to the river so that there would be more abundant water sources. The wise man listened to everyone's ideas, nodding constantly and writing them all down.

When the fool saw the wise man doing this, he thought it was funny in his heart. He thought, "What's so difficult? Just dig a well directly. Why bother so much and listen to so many people's ideas?" So, the fool found a place by himself and started to dig a well. He dug and dug, but after a long time, he still didn't find water.

On the wise man's side, after everyone's discussion and considering various factors, they chose a very suitable place and started to dig the well. The villagers worked together and soon dug out sweet well water.

When everyone thinks together, more comprehensive considerations can be made." After hearing the wise man's words, the fool thought it was very reasonable. He realized that he had been too self - righteous before.

Since then, the fool also began to learn from the wise man. When encountering things, he would discuss with everyone and draw on collective wisdom. Gradually, the fool also became smarter, and the villagers were all very happy to do things with him.
