In a beautiful garden in Denmark, there lived a tiny green worm. Its whole body was a tender green, and among the colorful flowers and emerald green leaves, it was particularly inconspicuous. Every day, the little green worm watched other insects in the garden being busy. Butterflies danced gracefully among the flower clusters, bees worked hard to collect nectar, and dragonflies flew gracefully in the air. The little green worm had a big dream in its heart. It hoped that one day it could become as beautiful as a butterfly and fly freely in the garden.
However, the little green worm's body was small and fat. It didn't have such beautiful wings as a butterfly, nor did it have such a light and graceful figure as a dragonfly. It crawled very, very slowly, only able to move a little distance each time. Other insects sometimes laughed at it, saying that it was a little bug that would never be able to fly. The little green worm was very sad when it heard these words, but it never gave up its dream. It knew that as long as it worked hard, it would achieve its dream one day. So, every day, the little green worm would find a quiet place and practice swinging its body hard. It imagined itself flying like a butterfly.
As days passed by, the little green worm's efforts didn't seem to have any obvious results. It was still that small, slow crawling green worm. One day, a heavy rain suddenly came. The insects in the garden all hurried to find places to shelter from the rain. The little green worm also wanted to find a safe place, but it crawled too slowly. Before it could find a suitable place, it was drenched all over by the heavy rain. It hid under a leaf, shivering, feeling extremely helpless. But when the rain stopped, the little green worm looked at the rainbow in the sky and was full of hope again. It told itself that this difficulty was nothing and that it should work harder to achieve its dream.
The little green worm began to change its practice method. It found that it could spit out some silk threads, so it wanted to do something special with these silk threads. The little green worm began to wrap itself up with the silk threads. It wrapped itself tightly, forming a small cocoon. In this cocoon, the little green worm felt safe and continued to change itself hard inside. It knew that it was undergoing a transformation and that as long as it persisted, there would be new changes.
Finally, after a long time of hard work, the little green worm felt that it had enough strength. It began to strive to break through that cocoon. This was a very difficult process, but the little green worm didn't give up. It used all its strength to tear the cocoon apart bit by bit. When it finally wriggled out of the cocoon, it found that its body had changed a great deal. A pair of beautiful, transparent wings had grown on its back, and its body had become lighter. The little green worm was extremely happy. It tried to flap its wings and, slowly, it flew up.
The little green worm flew freely in the garden. It flew over those colorful flowers and over the emerald green leaves. Those insects that had once laughed at it looked at it in amazement, unable to believe that this was the formerly small and inconspicuous green worm. The little green worm achieved its dream with its own efforts. It became the most inspiring little insect in the garden, and its story also inspired other little insects that as long as they had a dream and worked hard persistently, they would surely be able to achieve it.
