The Little Rabbit and the Fox

The Little Rabbit and the Fox

Story Summary

The story of a little rabbit outwitting a sly fox.

In a large forest in Germany, there lived a clever little rabbit and a sly fox. The fox was always thinking about catching the little rabbit and making it into a delicious meal for itself.

The little rabbit, though small in size, was very smart. One day, the little rabbit was picking mushrooms in the forest when suddenly it heard a faint sound of footsteps behind it. It turned around and saw, oh, it was that sly fox.

The little rabbit discovers the fox

The little rabbit was a little scared in its heart, but it immediately calmed down. It said loudly to the fox, "Brother Fox, you can't eat me. Do you know? Deep in the forest, there is a magical place where there are a great many delicious foods, much more delicious than me." When the fox heard this, its eyes lit up and it asked the little rabbit, "Really? Then you quickly take me there."

The little rabbit hopped ahead while the fox followed closely behind. The little rabbit led the fox around in the forest and came to a small river.

The little rabbit and the fox are at the riverside

The little rabbit pointed to the other side of the river and said, "Look, Brother Fox, those delicious things are on the other side. But this river is very wide, I can't jump across it. You are so strong, you can surely jump across it." The fox looked at the wide river and was a little hesitant, but thinking of those delicious foods, it still decided to give it a try. The fox took a few steps back and then jumped with force, but it didn't reach the other side. Instead, it fell into the river with a "plop".

The little rabbit looked at the fox struggling in the river and said with a smile, "Brother Fox, swim slowly. I'm going home." After saying that, the little rabbit hopped back to its home, while the fox could only flop desperately in the river, regretting that it had been tricked by the little rabbit.
