Story Summary

A poor man gets a magic bag that can never be filled.

Once upon a time, in a small town in Germany, there lived a very poor man. He lived in a dilapidated hut and worried about making a living every day. He had no property except a shabby set of clothes and a kind heart.

One day, while he was chopping firewood in the forest, he found a strange cloth bag. The bag looked ordinary, but when he put the chopped firewood into it, he found that the bag could never be filled. He was very surprised, so he put some leaves in it, and still the bag was not full.

The poor man realized that this was a magical cloth bag, and he was very happy. He thought that with this bag, he would no longer have to suffer from hunger and cold. So, he began to put all kinds of things into this bag. He put in food, clothes, and even some small pieces of furniture. His hut gradually became full, and his life began to improve.

However, this poor man did not become greedy. He still maintained his kind nature and often used the things in the bag to help his equally poor neighbors. He distributed food to hungry children and gave clothes to old people who had nothing to wear.
