In a small town in France, there lived a little girl named Lucy. By chance, she found an old diary in an ancient attic. The diary had a beautiful cover, with some strange symbols engraved on it. When she opened the diary, she noticed that some words gradually emerged on the blank pages.
Lucy was astonished to find that this diary seemed to be able to predict the future. It showed that there would be a small fire at the town's market the next day. Lucy was very worried and she ran to tell the townspeople. However, no one believed her, thinking it was just a child's joke.
The next day, just as the diary had predicted, there really was a fire at the market. Fortunately, because the firefighters arrived in time, not much damage was caused. Since then, Lucy began to take this magic diary more seriously.
She found that the diary also foretold many other things. For example, the neighbor's kitten would climb up a tree and be unable to get down. She told the neighbor in advance, and the neighbor promptly carried the kitten down. But gradually, Lucy became a little too dependent on this diary. She was always eager to know what would happen in the future and ignored her present life.
She no longer played with her friends as before, nor did she go to enjoy the beautiful scenery in the town. She just stayed with the diary all day long, waiting for new prophecies to appear. Until one day, the diary showed that her best friend would leave the town and go far away, and would never come back. Lucy was extremely sad and she wanted to prevent this from happening.
She rushed to the place where her friend was about to leave according to the time and location stated in the diary. She cried and begged her friend not to leave, but her friend was very puzzled and said that she had no intention of leaving at all. At this moment, Lucy realized that because she had paid too much attention to the future, she had almost lost her present friendship.
After that, Lucy no longer checked the magic diary all the time. She put the diary in a safe place and only took it out to look at it occasionally. She began to cherish every minute and second with her friends, to feel every wonderful moment in the town, and to enjoy her present life. She understood that although the future was full of uncertainties, the present life was the most real and the most worthy of cherishing.
