Story Summary

The origin and wisdom - related myth of the Big Dipper.

A long, long time ago, on the ancient land of India, there lived a group of kind and hard - working people. They made a living by farming the land and looked at the sky every day, arranging their lives according to the positions of the sun and the stars.

In this village, there was a clever little boy named Raj. Raj was full of curiosity about the stars in the sky. Whenever night fell, he would always lie on the grass outside the village, looking up at the starry sky and trying to count those twinkling stars.

Raj looks up at the starry sky

One night, when Raj was looking at the stars as usual, he noticed seven particularly bright stars in the sky. These seven stars were arranged in a strange and mysterious shape, a sight he had never seen before. Raj thought that these seven stars must have a special meaning, so he decided to seek the answer.

He ran back to the village and asked the wisest old man in the village. The old man told him that, according to the legend, these seven stars were the seven children of the gods, and they were sent to the sky to protect the people on the earth. But the old man also didn't know why these seven stars were arranged in such a shape.

Raj didn't give up. He observed these seven stars every night, trying to find out their secrets. He found that in different seasons, the positions of these seven stars would change slightly. After a long time of observation and thinking, Raj finally discovered a pattern.

Raj records the positions of the stars

Raj found that when these seven stars were arranged in a specific shape, it would predict what kind of weather the upcoming season would have. If the shape of the stars was like a spoon with the bowl facing up, then the following season would have plenty of rain, which was suitable for sowing; if the bowl of the spoon was facing down, then the season would be relatively dry and people needed to store water in advance.

Raj told this discovery to the people in the village. People arranged their farming and lives according to Raj's discovery, and sure enough, they had a bumper harvest. Since then, people have called these seven stars "the Stars of Wisdom", which are what we now call the Big Dipper.

Raj's wisdom and perseverance were praised by people, and the Big Dipper has also been silently protecting the people on the earth, becoming a symbol of hope and wisdom in people's hearts. Whenever night comes, children will listen to this story and look up at the Big Dipper, full of longing for the future.
