Story Summary

The adventure of looking for the magical candy house.

Once upon a time, in a small village in Germany, there lived a lovely brother and sister. The brother was named Hansel and the sister was named Gretel. Their family was very poor. One day, looking at the little food left at home, the stepmother frowned and said to the father, "We don't have enough food to raise these two children. We must take them deep into the forest and abandon them." Although the father was very helpless, he still obeyed the stepmother.

Hearing this news, Hansel and Gretel were very frightened. Clever Hansel secretly put some small white stones in his pocket. When they were taken into the forest, Hansel dropped the small stones quietly as he walked all the way, so that they could find their way home along the stones.

However, when they walked back according to the marks of the small stones the next morning, they found that many birds had pecked away the small stones. They got lost in the forest, hungry and tired. The brother and sister could only keep walking forward, hoping to find their way home or someone who could help them.

Walking along, suddenly, they saw a house made of candies, biscuits and cakes. The roof of the house was made of chocolate, the windows were transparent sugar cubes, and the walls were gingerbread. The brother and sister's eyes widened in surprise. They had never seen such a magical house.

They were so hungry that they couldn't help walking forward and wanted to break off a little something from the house to eat. Just then, an evil witch came out of the house. The witch had a long nose and fierce light in her eyes. The witch hypocritically said to the brother and sister, "Poor children, you must be starving. Come in and have something to eat."

Hansel and Gretel were deceived by the witch into the house. Actually, the witch wanted to fatten them up and then eat them. Every day, the witch gave them a lot of delicious food, but at the same time locked Hansel in a small cage and made Gretel do a lot of work.

Gretel missed her brother very much and knew that they must find a way to escape. One day, the witch asked Gretel to check if the oven was hot, preparing to roast Hansel and eat him. Gretel had an idea and said to the witch, "I'm not sure how to judge the temperature of the oven. Could you show me?" The stupid witch believed Gretel's words. When she bent down to check the oven, Gretel pushed hard and pushed the witch into the oven.

Then, Gretel quickly released Hansel. The brother and sister found a lot of gold and silver treasures in the witch's house and finally returned home along the path in the forest. The father was very glad to see them back, and the stepmother was ashamed of her wrong behavior. Since then, the brother and sister and their father lived a happy life.
