Once upon a time, there was a farmer in the State of Song. Every day, he had to work hard in the fields. He was either plowing the land or weeding, either watering or fertilizing. His life was very tough.
One day, while he was working in the field, suddenly he heard a "bang". He looked up and saw a rabbit running very fast. Maybe it was frightened by something and suddenly hit the tree stump beside the field and died on the spot. The farmer was extremely happy. He thought, "This is really like getting something for nothing. I got a rabbit without any effort."
So, the farmer picked up the rabbit and took it home. That night, he and his family had a delicious meal of rabbit meat. Since then, the farmer didn't want to go to the fields to work any more. Every day, he stayed beside that tree stump, waiting for the next rabbit to run into it by itself.
As days passed by, the farmer still waited beside the tree stump every day, but no more rabbits hit the tree stump. The weeds grew all over his fields. Because the crops didn't get timely care, they all withered. And he himself, because he had no harvest of grains and no rabbits to eat, finally became hungry and poor.
This story tells us that we can't always be lucky - thinking of getting something for nothing. Only through our own efforts can we achieve real results.
