Story Summary

The story of a wise man living on the top of the mountain teaching children.

In a small village in Germany, there was a mountain peak that towered into the clouds. On the top of the mountain lived an old man full of wisdom. His beard was long and white, just like the snowflakes in winter. All the children knew that he was a wise man, and their hearts were full of respect and curiosity for him.

The children in the village often looked at the small house on the top of the mountain while playing, imagining what the wise old man was doing. One day, a little boy named Hans proposed, "Let's go to the top of the mountain to find the wise old man. Maybe he can tell us a lot of interesting stories." The other children nodded in agreement.

So, the children set foot on the path leading to the top of the mountain. The path was winding, and around it were thick woods. The birds sang merrily on the branches, as if cheering them on.

Children walking up the mountain path

The children walked for a long time and finally arrived in front of the wise old man's house. The wise old man was sitting at the door, basking in the sun. When he saw the children coming, a kind smile appeared on his face.

"Children, why are you here?" the wise old man asked gently.

Hans bravely stepped forward and said, "Grandpa, we want to learn wisdom from you." The wise old man smiled and motioned for the children to sit beside him.

"Then let me tell you a story about courage first," the wise old man began. "Once upon a time, there was a young knight who was going to challenge a fierce dragon. Many people advised him not to go, but with his own courage, he set out on the journey. During the battle, although he encountered a great many difficulties, he never gave up and finally defeated the dragon successfully."

The children were so absorbed in the story that their eyes sparkled with curiosity and longing.

The wise old man is telling a story

After listening to the story, a little girl asked, "Grandpa, what is real wisdom?" The wise old man stroked her head and said, "Real wisdom is not only knowing a great deal of knowledge, but also includes knowing how to get along with others, how to face difficulties, and how to keep a kind heart. Just like you coming here today, you had the courage to set foot on this mountain path, which is also a manifestation of wisdom."

The children nodded thoughtfully. The wise old man told them many more stories, about friendship, about honesty, and about hard work.

As the sun gradually set in the west, the children knew they should go home. They thanked the wise old man and then set off on their way home.

On their way home, the children all felt that they had gained a great deal. They understood the true meanings of courage, wisdom, friendship, etc., and secretly decided in their hearts that they would be a person full of wisdom and kindness in the future, just as the wise old man had taught them.
