Once upon a time, there was a king named Midas in Greece. He was extremely greedy and had gold on his mind all the time. He believed that the more gold he had, the happier he would be. One day, King Midas helped a little elf. To repay him, the elf decided to grant him a wish. Without hesitation, Midas said, "I hope that everything I touch can turn into gold." Hearing this, the elf nodded slightly and endowed him with the power of the golden touch.
Midas was so excited that he couldn't wait to try this magical ability. He stretched out his finger and gently touched the table in the palace. In an instant, the originally ordinary wooden table turned into a glittering pure - gold table. He then touched the chairs and the walls, and all the things he touched turned into gold. Looking at the gold all over the room, his eyes shone with greed and joy, and he thought he was the richest man in the world.
However, problems soon arose. When he felt hungry and wanted to eat something, he picked up an apple, and the apple immediately turned into gold and couldn't be bitten at all. He then tried to pick up the bread, and the bread also became a hard gold nugget. Looking at the table full of golden food, he couldn't eat any of it, and his stomach growled with hunger.
Even worse, when his daughter ran over to hug him, he subconsciously reached out his arms to hug her, and his daughter was also turned into a golden statue. Looking at his immobile daughter, his heart ached terribly, and he finally realized how terrible the consequences of his greed were.
Midas finally understood that money was not the most important thing. He searched everywhere for the elf and begged the elf to take back this power. Seeing that Midas was truly repentant, the elf agreed to his request. The elf told him to take a bath in the Pactolus River, and his golden touch was removed.
Since then, Midas was no longer greedy. He learned to cherish the truly important things around him, such as family, friends, and a healthy life. He and his daughter lived happily in the palace and led a peaceful and contented life.
