The Farmer and the Snake

The Farmer and the Snake

Story Summary

A kind farmer tries to save a frozen snake but is nearly bitten by it. It is a cautionary tale.

Once upon a time, in a cold winter in the United States, there was a kind - hearted farmer. On this day, as usual, he went to check his fields. When he walked to the woods beside the fields, he found a frozen snake. The snake was curled up motionless and looked very pitiful. The farmer thought to himself, this snake is also a life. How pitiful it would be if it were frozen to death in this icy and snowy world.

The farmer picked up the snake

Without much hesitation, the farmer gently picked up the snake and put it in his warm bosom. He hoped that his body heat could warm the snake up. As he walked, he carefully took care of the snake in his arms, just like treating his own child. He thought that when the snake got warm, he would put it back into the woods so that it could continue to survive.

The snake woke up and showed its fierce look

After a while, the snake gradually regained consciousness in the farmer's arms. Before the farmer had time to be happy, he found that the snake suddenly opened its mouth, showed its sharp fangs and bit towards his hand. The farmer was startled and quickly withdrew his hand. He never expected that after he kindly saved this snake, the snake would bite him.

The farmer looked at the snake disappointedly

The farmer looked at the snake disappointedly and said, "I saved you. Why did you bite me? I thought you were just frozen and needed help. I didn't expect you to be so vicious." The snake replied coldly, "I am a snake. This is my nature. You shouldn't have saved me." After saying that, the snake slithered away. The farmer stood there, looking in the direction where the snake left, full of feelings in his heart. He understood that for those with vicious natures, even if you show kindness to them, they will not be grateful and may even harm you instead. From then on, the farmer became more cautious when helping others or animals.
