The Elf in the Windmill

The Elf in the Windmill

Story Summary

The heart - warming story of a little elf living in a windmill helping farmers solve their problems.

In a quiet English village, there was an old windmill. This windmill had been standing there for many, many years. Its blades slowly turned in the gentle breeze, making a creaking sound. Inside the windmill, there lived a kind - hearted sprite. This sprite emitted a faint glow all over and had transparent wings, just like the purest crystal.

The farmers would pass by this windmill every day on their way to work in the fields. They all knew that a sprite lived in the windmill, but they had never disturbed it. However, recently, the farmers had encountered a big problem. For some reason, it hadn't rained a single drop for many consecutive days, and the crops in the fields were almost dying of drought. The farmers were down - in - the - mouth and didn't know what to do.

The sprite discovers the farmers' distress

Seeing the farmers so distressed, the sprite decided to help them. It flapped its little wings and searched everywhere in the windmill for a solution. It rummaged through all the old books in the windmill and finally found a potentially useful magic in a dusty magic book. This magic could summon clouds from afar and let the rain moisten the earth.

But this magic required a very powerful energy source to be activated. The sprite looked at its own frail body and then at the parched land outside. It knew it had to give it a try. So, the sprite flew to the very top of the windmill and began to recite complex incantations. The glow on its body grew stronger and stronger, and the air around it began to tremble slightly.

The sprite casts the magic

As the incantations were recited, some small black dots began to appear in the sky in the distance. These black dots slowly grew larger. They were actually dark clouds being summoned over. More and more dark clouds gathered in the sky, and soon they blocked out the sunlight. The wind also began to blow fiercely, blowing the sprite unsteadily, but it still held on tightly to the windmill and persisted in reciting the incantations until the end.

Finally, the first drop of rain fell and landed on the sprite's face. The sprite laughed happily because it knew it had succeeded. Then, more rain fell, hitting the parched land and splashing up small water - sprays. When the farmers saw the rain, they all cheered. They ran and laughed in the rain, thanking God for the gift.

The sprite and the farmers celebrate together

As for the sprite, it was already exhausted. But seeing the farmers so happy, it also felt very satisfied. The farmers knew that it was the sprite who had helped them. They came to the bottom of the windmill and invited the sprite to celebrate together. The sprite happily flew down and laughed with the farmers in the rain. Since then, the sprite and the farmers had become even better friends. It continued to live in the windmill, guarding this land and these kind - hearted people.
