Story Summary

Wisdom stories told by an old oak tree.

In an ancient forest in Denmark, there is a huge Oak Tree Grandpa. His trunk is so thick that it takes several children holding hands to encircle it. His branches and leaves are lush, like a gigantic green umbrella, sheltering the small animals in the forest from the wind and rain. Oak Tree Grandpa is very, very old. He has gone through countless springs, summers, autumns, and winters and witnessed many stories in the forest.

The small animals in the forest like to sit around Oak Tree Grandpa's feet and listen to his wisdom - filled stories. The little squirrel always brings the nuts it has collected and skips over to Oak Tree Grandpa; the little rabbit will run quickly from its burrow, its ears bouncing up and down; the little birds will also perch on Oak Tree Grandpa's branches, chirping as they wait for the story to begin.

One day, a little fox came to Oak Tree Grandpa with its head down. The little fox said to Oak Tree Grandpa, "Grandpa, I always want a lot of things. When I see the little rabbit's burrow, which is warm and comfortable, I want it. When I see the little squirrel's nuts, I also want them. I always envy what others have and turn a blind eye to what I have. What should I do?" Oak Tree Grandpa smiled kindly and said in his deep and wise voice, "Child, everyone has their own treasure. Your cleverness and agility are your treasures. You don't need to envy others. You should learn to cherish what you have. Just like this forest, every tree and every animal has its own unique value." The little fox nodded thoughtfully after hearing Oak Tree Grandpa's words.

Some days later, the forest was hit by a storm. The howling wind blew the trees askew; the heavy rain poured down, and many small animals' homes were flooded. The little fox remembered Oak Tree Grandpa's words. He used his agility to help other small animals in the forest. He helped the little rabbit drain the water in its burrow and helped the little squirrel collect the nuts blown off by the wind.

After the storm, the small animals in the forest gathered at Oak Tree Grandpa's feet. The little fox said to everyone, "I used to always envy you all. Now I know that we all have our own abilities. If we help each other, we can make our forest a better place." Oak Tree Grandpa smiled with relief, and his branches and leaves swayed gently in the breeze, as if applauding the little fox's growth. The small animals all cheered, and the forest was filled with a happy atmosphere.
